Lion panels from the Ishtar Gate
Two Panels with striding lions
Neo-Babylonian
Nebuchadnezzar II; 604–562 B.C.
Mesopotamia, Babylon (modern Hilah)

The lion was sacred to ishtar the goddess of love and war. there where more than 100 of these beasts lined up on the lower part of the ishtar gate in babylon. i thought this was just a really interesting piece, the lions seemed to be a way to make the citizens feel protected and safe.

The Cassone Chest Gift

The Cassone is large chest site that can be more briefly described as one of the trophy furnishings of rich merchants and aristocrats in Italian culture. In the Late Middle Ages the Cassone was the one of the most important piece of furniture of that time. This piece of furniture was a gift given the to bride by her parents. The great big present would be placed in the bridal suite during the wedding as a surprises wedding gift. The Cassone was used as by the bride to store her personal belonging and due to this, Cassone was carved or painted with pictures of country romance and holy legends.  I think this is a great gift that a girl could ever received from her parents as a wedding gift because it is almost another way of protecting their child even though she is getting married by giving her a place to store her most private belongings. It something that if I ever received from my parents when I marry that I would cherish forever.
