Mother and Child

This limestone carving shows the great importance a mother is for her child.  This limestone is displayed at the Cal State San Bernardino Muesum. As there are many limestones like this, I have seen many other great pieces of art that show well the importance of a mother and child. One great example is the Pepy II and his mother, Queen Ankhnes- Meryre. Without a mother there would be no life and today I decided to wait and write this post on Mother's Day to show the wonderful place mothers have in our hearts. As many know the birth of a child is a wonderful thing and without the care from their mother the survival of the child is questionable. Meanwhile, Happy Mother's Day bloggers.

Even in different time periods we all have one connection and this piece shows how we all relate to each other. A mom and her childs bond is irreplaceable, It's neat to see how even back then they played such an important role and continue to do so today.

Lovely piece! Although her form is stiff and the baby is "floating" on her arm, you can still feel the motherly nurturing as she feeds her child. Mothers from the past, present and in the future all are special.

Interesting. The extremities are not as proportional as they should be. But they whole concept of the figure displays a sense of nuturing and importance of maternal responsibilities.

I love this piece! It just shows how important a mother is to a child, because without her, a child couldnt possibly survive. I like the color of the limestone, and how the child is carved in her arm while she is feeding it.

I believe i saw this when I went to the same museum. It is really interesting to see the detail in the carving. It is amazing that the role of a mother never changes through hundreds of years. Art work of mothers will always be treasured.

Fantastic piece. It's nice to see appreciation for mothers, even in the old times. To me it's surprising to see that women were appreciated back then seeing that a woman's status was low then.

Pure beauty, this is showing that the wonderful gift of a women being able to give birth has long been greatly appreciated. To be able to birth new life is something worth taking an artistic eye to and somwhat marking this appreciation in time.
