Metropolis II
"an intense and a complex kinetic sculpture, modeled after a fast paced, frenetic modern city."
This exhibition is unique in the fact that it uses small scale RC cars to portray its fast-paced 21st century environment.
"Miniature cars speed through the city at 240 scale miles per hour; every hour, approximately 100,000 cars circulate through the dense network of buildings. According to Burden, "The noise, the continuous flow of the trains, and the speeding toy cars, produces in the viewer the stress of living in a dynamic, active and bustling 21st Century city."
LACMA does not give an exact date of its release as they state "Coming soon Fall 2011"

I'm curious to know how loud all these vehicles really are!

Just by looking at the picture and reading the first few lines of info underneath wants me to go check it out! it looks very promising and full of life, very cool and exciting!
I feel that this would be very exciting for a child to see because it is the imagination of a mini city with toy cars racing through. I love how complex and functional it is. The twist and sharp turns give it a contemporary look. It has a futuristic feel to it and the color is a splash here and there. The sections of color around the grey tracks also make it an industrial piece of work. I am interested in how much noise it actually makes.
Interesting! This would probably be a layout for future cities like New York or something...Its crazy how in Roman times a road was an engineering feat while this complicated road system would be an engineering accomplishment today! How have times changed!

I find this so interesting. It shows how futuristic we as humans can be. Imagine if our city really had that close of cars near the top of 10 story buildings. I believe the car would probably make a lot of noise because it probably needs all that energy to get around the tracks.
I saw this in person! In this picture it looks much smaller than it is.. it actually covered the entire center of the room and required the person to walk around it. I remember it was noisy too, because little toy cars were constantly whizzing around the tracks. It was a really cool piece!
