NO GLUE, NO TAPE, NO TRICKS

Bryan Berg's card creations are truly amazing; he uses no tape, no glue, and no tricks, simply cards. In the first picture , for example, he built an exact replica of the Rhode Island State House using 22,000 cards in just three days. The building, although created in a short amount of time was extremely stable, revealing his talents. Byran Breg has truly defied the limits of card structures with his magnificent works. He currenlty holds the Guiness Record for the world's tallest house of free standing playing cards.

Are Fine Art Museums the Next Starbucks?

Read the complete article in The Atlantic:

When does an art museum become less a public institution and more a glorified entrance lobby? When its developers, themselves scions of the contemporary art world, refer to it as "a new paradigm for a kind of hotel-museum community."

Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art at Chaffey College

April 17 – May 22, 2010
Reception: Wednesday, April 21, 6:00 – 8:00pm (Wignall Museum)
Artists Panel Discussion: May 13, 6:00 – 8:00pm (Chaffey College, CAA 211)

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Chaffey College and the Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art are pleased to announce the Student Invitational 2010, an annual exhibition of work by students that have excelled in the visual arts programs. Artists are selected to participate in the exhibition and accompanying honors class by a jury of full-time faculty from the Art, Photography, and Digital Media departments. In its 33rd year, this annual exhibition reflects the creative professionalism and diversity of the visual arts program at Chaffey College.

The students selected to participate in the exhibition create completely new bodies of work specifically for the exhibition. They also participate in a unique seminar course, undergoing a rigorous investigation of their own artistic processes with support and assistance from the art faculty, gallery curators and staff. The impressive result is the Student Invitational 2010. The exhibition will feature the work of Camille Alaras, David Alekhuogie, Irene Diaz, Shakisaha Harvey, Nick Jones, Hansi Martinez, Brad Sackett, Alaina Sharpshair, Ashley VanBrunt and Minh Vo.

This exhibition was possible due to the support of the Presidents Office, the Office of Instruction, and the School of Visual, Performing & Communication Arts. We would like to extend special thanks to the Associated Students of Chaffey College and Chaffey College Marketing and Public Relations for their generous support.

This exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Don't Touch the Art

This goes double if the art is live nudes:

Some visitors to a new exhibit at New York City's Museum of Modern Art are being asked to leave because they are touching nude performers. The performers featured in Marina Abramovic's new exhibition have complained of being pushed, prodded and poked by some patrons. The museum acknowledges that it has had problems with some visitors touching the live art. It is declining to talk about specific cases, but says visitors caught doing it are escorted out.

National Trust book collection now online

Was onlline the other day and came across this interesting info from theartnewspaper.com: "Visitors can now search through more than 150,000 books from 140 historic libraries"

Historians, students and the public can now view a catalogue of over 150,000 historic books from the National Trust’s collection online. Although the project began in 1958, the majority of the work has taken place within the past five years. The National Trust owns 140 historic libraries which contain 230,000 books bound in 400,000 volumes. The Trust’s diverse collection includes everything from an autographed copy of Virgina Woolf’s 1928 novel Orlando inscribed to the woman who Woolf based the book upon—Vita Sackville-West—to the Bible purportedly used by Charles I on the scaffold in 1649. Approximately 70,000 have yet to be catalogued. The catalogue is available: http://copac.ac.uk/libraries/nationaltrust.html
