Rotunda at CA State Capitol Buliding

When I visited the California State Capitol Building last March I took this picture while standing in the middle of the first floor main entrance. The whole room was surrounded by wonderful works of art, but the view of the ceiling in the Rotunda was amazing. According to the State Capitol Museum "this circular room is 53 feet in diameter and rises 128 feet from the basement of the building to the oculus at the apex of the inner dome."

The style is Renaissance Revival with pastel colors and gold ornamentation throughout the design. Awe striking beauty, wonderful sight to see. For more info about the art at the capitol building's architecture and this work of art go to the California State Capitol Museum website...
